SUMMARY:PCMACE Webinar: Designing the "Next Normal"
DESCRIPTION:June 16th | 10:30AM – 11:30 AM EST \nPCMA Canada East Education Committee Presents:\nAn On-Line Connection Session; Hear from Lee-Anne McAlear\,  Designing for the “Next Normal”\, spend time networking in small groups and then participate in an on-line BINGO game for a wonderful prize! \n\nWho is at the Beating Heart of Your New Business Strategies? \nIf effective new business strategies and practices are going to shape the ‘next normal’\, they will have to be designed to meet the realities of people’s changing expectations Post-Covid. \nToday’s best business leaders already follow the principles of user-centered\, design thinking when dealing with issues large and small. With its direct\, solutions-based means of future-casting and problem solving\, rooted in understanding user needs\, design thinking strategy can guide organizations in effectively responding to a crisis like the coronavirus pandemic. For any effective strategy\, a diversity of perspectives is essential. \nDesign thinking strategy is critical in the private sector as it navigates the devastating economic impact of the widespread lockdown. The most successful businesses saw an opportunity to enhance their offerings and provide a social service\, such as a whisky manufacturer producing and distributing free hand sanitizer\, garment makers sewing masks for frontline health care workers and UHaul offering a month’s free storage for college students caught in a bind. \nTo look at the coronavirus crisis as a problem amenable to user-centered design thinking is to acknowledge that customers need and want to be kept at the centre of planning and execution. Embracing this notion is at the heart of a strong user-centered design thinking strategy and a means to achieve success in the ‘next normal’. \nIn this talk\, Lee-Anne will make the principles of user-centered design thinking strategies come alive. With high energy\, multiple cases and examples and very practical take-aways\, the audience will leave both applicable insights and an understanding of how to help create the “next “normal. \nSpeaker: Lee-Anne McAlear \nLee-Anne is also the founding partner of the Toronto-based innovation and leadership house\, CURRENT\, and a Director of the International Association of Innovation Professional – the only association offering globally recognized certifications in innovation. \nLee-Anne has worked extensively in the innovation space in over 32 countries (from the USA\, Mexico and South America\, through Europe\, across Asia and down under in Australia) in both the public and private sectors. \nShe has piloted several global innovation initiatives that have\, for example\, delivered new approaches to brand revitalization\, new methods for delivering patient care and new ways to address customer retention. \nIn her work at Schulich\, she and her team are responsible for designing and delivering programs enhancing the innovation and leadership capabilities of executives and their people. Their programs are consistently among the top-rated at Schulich. \nLee-Anne speaks globally and has shared the stage with presenters as diverse as Alan Alda and Don Tapscott. \nShe is not only adventuresome in her approach to business\, but she is also an adventurer in life having trekked the Himalayas\, scuba-dived the Great Barrier Reef and white-water rafted in India. \nSponsored by:

SUMMARY:PCMACE Webinar: INFODEMIC
DESCRIPTION:PCMA Canada East Education Committee Presents: INFODEMIC! IS MISINFORMATION KILLING US? With TIMOTHY CAULFIELD \nDate: Tuesday\, October 27th\, 2020 \nTime: 11:30AM – 12:30PM EST \nDetails: Cow urine\, bleach\, and cocaine have all been recommended as COVID-19 cures — all nonsense. The pandemic has been cast as a leaked bioweapon\, a byproduct of 5G wireless technology\, and a political hoax — all poppycock. And countless wellness gurus and alternative-medicine practitioners have pushed unproven potions\, pills\, and practices as ways to “boost” the immune system. Misinformation is absolutely everywhere. The coronavirus isn’t just a pandemic\, it is an infodemic. It’s caused physical harm and financial loss; added confusion and distraction to an already chaotic environment; and made it even more difficult to implement the needed health policy initiatives.\nHow does this misinformation spread? Why do people believe it? What can we do as individuals and a community to fight back? Who can we trust? In this provocative presentation\, Professor Timothy Caulfield will explore these questions and more. \nSpeaker:  Timothy Caulfield \n\nCanadian and Edmonton local\nSpeakers’ Spotlight Speaker\nProfessor of Health Law and Science Policy at the University of Alberta\nAuthor of Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?\n\n \nProfessor Timothy Caulfield is an unrivalled communicator who debunks myths and assumptions about innovation in the health sector — from research on stem cells to diets to alternative medicine — for the benefit of the public and decision-makers. He is a Canada Research Chair in health law and policy\, a professor in the Faculty of Law and the School of Public Health\, and a research director of the Health Law Institute at the University of Alberta. \nCaulfield is also frequently sought-after by the media to comment on health and science policy issues\, and is the author of two national bestselling books: The Cure for Everything: Untangling the Twisted Messages about Health\, Fitness and Happiness and Is Gwyneth Paltrow Wrong About Everything?. He is also the host and co-producer of the award-winning\, hit documentary TV show\, A User’s Guide to Cheating Death\, which has been shown in over 60 countries\, including streaming on Netflix in North America. \n  \nSponsored By:

SUMMARY:Notice from the President - PCMACE CIC2020
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n  \n  \n  \n \nIt is with mixed emotions that we are letting you know that CIC 2020 – the Canadian Innovation Conference that was scheduled for November 22-24 2020 is postponed.   After careful consideration and much consultation with all of our partners and stakeholders\, the PCMA Canada East Chapter Board of Directors felt it was in everyone’s best interest to postpone the conference until we can meet together safely November 21-23\, 2021 in Edmonton. \nWe did not want to compromise what CIC represents and we never wanted to deliver an event that fell below our standards and everyone’s expectations.  Thanks to our amazing partners\, our next three destinations were able to “lift and shift” for a year to allow Edmonton the opportunity of hosting CIC November 21-23 2021.   We would like to acknowledge how grateful we are to Niagara Falls\, Saskatoon and Saint John  for not only going over and beyond collaborating but really working their magic to make this happen. \nOur Chair of CIC\, Heather Reid\, said it best….. we are humbled and deeply grateful to have such wonderful partners and we all look forward to the day where we can meet in Edmonton next year.   Mark your calendars – November 21-23\, 2021 in Edmonton where we will do more than Breaking Barriers – stay tuned for more updates as CIC 2021 is going to be EPIC! \nKind regards\, \nHelene Kenny\nPresident\nPCMA Canada East Chapter
